Whittier Loves Us!

Whittier homes don’t fit a template. The 1940s craftsmans around Penn Park have one set of needs. The mid-century homes on Scott Ave and Mar Vista have another. The newer construction in Friendly Hills is its own animal. A contractor who quotes off square footage and a tonnage rule of thumb is going to put the wrong system in the wrong house.

We’ve been installing in Whittier since 2008, which means we’ve already learned what a homeowner here is actually buying. The original ductwork in a lot of these older homes was retrofitted in when central air arrived — undersized returns, runs that bend too sharply, leaks at every joint. A new five-ton unit dumped on top of that ductwork doesn’t perform like a five-ton unit. It performs like whatever the ducts will let through.

The technician walks the home, runs a real load calculation, looks at the duct condition, checks the electrical service, and gives you a price that includes everything the install actually requires — equipment, labor, duct repair if it’s needed, permit, inspection. Not a low number that grows. The $49 diagnostic comes off when you move forward.

GoodLeap financing approved in minutes if you need it. Manufacturer warranty plus our own work warranty on every install. Money-back guarantee in writing.

FAQ

Q: I’ve heard system sizing is a big deal — how does Comfort Time figure out what my Whittier home needs?
A: A Manual J load calculation. It’s the industry-standard calculation that accounts for square footage, ceiling height, window area and exposure, insulation levels, and air sealing. In a Whittier home — especially an older one where the insulation and windows have probably been updated piecemeal over decades — sizing based on the existing equipment is usually wrong. The home today isn’t the home the original system was sized for.

Q: My ductwork is older than I am. Does it need to be replaced before a new system goes in?
A: Maybe, maybe not. Some original Whittier ductwork is fine — sound construction, no major leaks, properly sized for the new equipment. Some isn’t. The duct assessment is part of the estimate and if work is needed it’s included in the upfront price. We don’t quote a system, install it, and then come back saying the ducts also need work. That’s not the way it should go.

Q: How long does a typical install take?
A: One day for a standard residential changeout. Two days if there’s ductwork to replace, electrical service to upgrade, or equipment access that’s tighter than usual. You’ll know the timeline before we start.

Q: What’s the warranty situation?
A: Manufacturer warranty on the equipment — usually 10 years on parts when the system is registered. Plus our workmanship warranty on the installation. The two together cover both the box and the way it went in.

Q: Permit and inspection — is that on me or you?
A: On us. Whittier requires permits and inspections on full system replacements and we handle both. The cost is in the flat-rate price you agreed to. You don’t have to call the city, schedule anything, or coordinate.
