Check For Gas

- Check if you have hot water and gas on the stove top
- If no gas is present, you should contact your gas company.
- If you have a floor or gas furnace make sure the pilot flame is on. If no flame is present, you can try lighting the pilot by pushing down the pilot button on the gas valve and use a match to start the pilot.

Check The Thermostat?
- Don’t have a response when you turn on the heat? Replace the batteries in the thermostat if you have a digital thermostat
- Check the wires behind the thermostat to see if all connections are tight
- If your digital thermostat is blank with no lights are on, and your thermostat doesn’t take batteries, you may have a power issue.
Check For Power
- Wall Furnaces and Floor Furnaces Don’t Use Electricity
- Force air furnaces all need power
- Check the plug connected to the furnace; you can use a small appliance or electronic device like a cell phone charger to check if power is present at the plug if you don’t have an electric meter.
- If no power is present, go to the main power panel and check if any of the breakers are off.
- If your furnace is on and doesn’t stay on or blowing cold air you may have a sensor problem.
Replace The Filter?
- Replace the filter if you haven’t for some time.
- A Clogged filter can cause the furnace to overheat and blow in safe mode
- Safe mode is when the furnace just blows cold air.
Check The Sensors
- If your furnace turns on but doesn’t stay on, you may have a problem with the flame sensor, pilot sensor, exhaust fan sensor, or high temp sensor.
- Check the pilot sensor for any corrosion, the pilot sensor if found next to the pilot which is located near the main burners. (It looks like a straight rod or an L shape rod)
- Wipe the sensor with sandpaper, all you need to do is scuff the pilot sensor and turn on the pilot and or turn the furnace on.
